Midfielder Sanie Samura and the Avalon Black Knights battled adversity and earned a win against rival private school Riverdale Baptist last week as Samura scored a game changing goal.
The Avalon Black Knights defeated he Crusaders 5-2 in a home game at Centerway Park in Montgomery Village.
“I’m very proud of this group of young men, they never gave up,” said head coach Justin Kanka.
Samura, a junior, scored on a free kick from 40 yards out, an impressive and risky shot, after a foul in the 7oth minute of the game.
He also added,“The emotions were high and intense watching him prepare to pass the ball or try to score.”
The play caught his Samura’s team off guard, however they celebrated the outcome.
“Surprised and excited,” Kanka said. “Everyone thought Sanie was going to put the ball in the box and hope for the best. But instead he took a chance and scored.”
Additionally, senior striker George Taylor, sophomore Francesco Kushner, freshmen Fullback Patrick de Marchi, and centermid Elliot Hodges also scored for the Black Knights.
