The Avalon School celebrated the All Saints Day Festival Day Monday by playing capture the flag at Seneca Creek Park.
Senior Khamaal Barrett-Ricks, Carroll House, helped the Stewart-Carroll team win in a hard fought contest that went down to the wire.
Barrett-Ricks took the Washington-Calvert flag up the right sideline near the street but was trapped by defenders. The move brought the flag only feet away from the goal line.
Later, with the help of eighth grader DeJean Desire the flag came across the line seconds before the Calvert-Washington team could get theirs across.
Despite the exciting finish, the game was shrouded in a cloud of controversy when both sides emptied their jails without truly being freed.
This caused confusion on whether or not the victory is valid. However, after a brief discussion among teachers it was decided that the victory is valid.
