“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” hit select theatres last Thursday, April 3, and opened everywhere Friday, April 4. It was a bang at the box office, making an estimated $96.2 million in its opening weekend. The sequel to the 2011 blockbuster, “Captain America: The First Avenger,” set the record for the most money made in an opening weekend for an April release.
Not only did “The Winter Soldier” do well at the box office, but it received an 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and now has an 8.3/10 on IMDB, two highly respected movie ranking websites.
The PG-13 rated film is about how Steve Rogers (Captain America) struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and battles an old enemy from his past and a new threat from history: the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier.
This film features several A-list actors, including Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Redford.
Evans does a great job in reprising his role as Captain America. Jackson returns as Nick Furry and delivers like he has in all his other movies.
Johansson does not just look stunning, but she does a great job playing Black Window and shows us why Marvel is giving her a Black Widow movie. Redford plays Alexander Pierce. Regarding his acting, well Robert Redford is Robert Redford. For those of you who don’t know who he is, watch “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”
The action was incredible and supported by an amazing story. The movie blends the right amount of comedy with seriousness like Marvel does in all of its movies. This story also was touching.
If you like Marvel super hero movies, this one is a must. Not only is it better than the Avengers but it may be the best Marvel super hero film yet. I recommend you go see it. I give it two thumbs up.
