The Avalon Black Knights will play in the Laker Invitational Tournament and the Wootton Basketball Tournament over Christmas break.
“Our goal is to win both tournaments,” said coach Kevin Davern. “But I think we have a stronger chance to win the Wootton tourney.”
The teams in the Laker Invitational consist of Avalon, St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes, Baltimore Friends, Boys Latin School, Heritage Christian, Archbishop Curley, and others. The Black Knights will open the tournament against St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes, the team that won the tournament last year.
The teams in the Wooton Basketball Tourney consist of Avalon, Watkins Mill, Wooton, Rockville, Magruder, Bladensburg, and Durham Academy (NC). Avalon will play Watkins Mill on the December 27 for their first game.
“We know we are playing top-notch competition,” said Davern. “But this should help us to get ready for the home stretch.”
The Black Knights are 5-2 for the season so far and the leading scorer is Zamir Courtney at 12 points per game. Pierce Howard and Berthin Mayo follow closely behind at 10 points per game.
The team’s biggest tournament will be at the end of the season when they will defend their championship in the Saint Anselm’s Tournament.
