Basketball Off To Strong Start

Avalon Black Knights basketball has gotten off to a good start in their season, going 4-1 in their first five games.

“We are long and athletic,” said coach Kevin Davern, headmaster of Avalon. “We need to keep working on all fundamentals and get better every game throughout the season.”

The Black Knights have a 28 game schedule and have several big games coming up including a game against The Heights School next Monday.

“Our communication is what we do best,” said Senior Zamir Courtney. “We need to work on our defensive rotations and everyone needs to make sure they know where they are on the floor.”

So far, Avalon’s only loss on the year came against The Potomac School in a tournament last weekend. Their wins are against Calverton, Jewish Day School, Grace Christian Academy, and School Without Walls.

“We would like to win at least 20 games and finish strong in the Saint Anselm’s tournament to end the season,” said Davern.

The Black Knights finished 18-10 last season and won the Saint Anselm’s tournament. The team’s goal is to repeat the championship this year.

Avalon’s biggest opponents this year are The Heights, Takoma Academy, and Perry Street Prep. Their next game is against Don Bosco Cristo Rey this Friday.
