The Avalon Black Knights advanced to 7-1 on the season with last week’s wins over Heritage Christian Academy and Sandy Spring Friends.
Avalon started with a 78-56 beat down of Heritage Christian Academy on Tuesday in their first home game of the season. Seniors Tracy Johnson and Emmett Sloan combined for 50 of the 78 points, and the Black Knights were able to secure 42 rebounds while keeping their opponents to 27 points in the first three quarters.
The Black Knights also accumulated 11 steals over the course of the game, providing crucial points for Avalon.
Sloan, a two-guard, led the team with 25 points against Heritage and continued his romp with 22 against Sandy Spring, despite only playing 2 and a half quarters.
Additionally, the swingman had a combined seven steals, eight rebounds and seven assists to help guide the Black Knights to two consecutive 20-plus point victories.
Meanwhile, Johnson had a week that will go down in the Avalon history books. The starting point guard started the week with a 25 point performance against Heritage, with five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
If that wasn’t enough, he made Avalon history on Friday with 20 assists. Johnson also added six rebounds and seven steals and finished the week with a ridiculous 25 points, 24 assists, 11 rebounds and nine steals.
Avalon finished the week with a 79-37 decimation of Sandy Spring Friends, where junior Berthin Mayo and senior Phil Corcoran combined for 25 points and 11 rebounds. Sloan and Johnson contributed with a combined 22 points, 25 assists, 10 steals, and 12 rebounds.
The Black Knights’ stifling defense was able to keep Sandy Spring to 24 points in the first three quarters, and the leading scorer scored 14 points in the game.
